The toilet flushing cycle is determined based on an exact series of events. First, pour enough water into the bowl for the siphon to work. This is hard work. The purpose of the tank is to hold about 2 gallons and release them all at once. When the flushing is complete, the flap returns to its original position. It blocks the drain hole.
